Some people were taken aback when they heard the news that Australia will perform in this year's Eurovision Song Contest. However, considering most Australians come form a European background, it only seems fitting. Israel is not a European country but has participated in the contest 37 times since 1973. Eurovision is a huge hit in Australia. For over 35 years SBS has been broadcasting the event to millions of Australian viewers on free to air television. In some European countries it is only possible to watch Eurovision on cable television.
Whatever you think of Australia's participation this year, it is nice that Australia was invited to perform given its large and loyal fan base. There has been much speculation as to what song Guy Sebastian would sing and I must admit I am pleasantly surprised. Many Estonians who have left comments on Facebook also agree it's quite a good, upbeat song. Good luck to him!
